SUNDAY LINKS

Hello! I'm cheating a bit and writing this post in advance, as I'm currently in Copenhagen (presumably having a lovely time eating danish pastries and drinking coffee in beautiful cafes). It's been a fun week, I've cheered up considerably since writing this blog post (over-sharing on the internet DOES work!), and I've had a busy week of pals, fun, and pubs.

Here's the best bits I spotted online this week. Hope you're all having a lovely Sunday!

The Future is Naps - Enamel pin
So, Beyonce released Lemonade, and it's all everyone is talking about. Here's why it is so important. Also, wondering who 'Becky with the good hair' is? This is why you should not care.

Game of Thones is BACK, and I am so delighted that my favourite brutal show is here again. I thought the first episode was a pretty solid start to the season, but it's weird to see new stories - I'm so used to knowing what's next in the tv show! I'm also a bit alarmed at how much I still love Jaime Lannister. Gah.

A totally fascinating and mammoth look at Uber, and how it conquered London.

I absolutely loved Carrie's DIY embroidered bomber jackets! I want to go on a girl gang trip to Paris now, it looks amazing!

Did you know that Denmark is the world's happiest country, and they have the best work-life balance in the world? I need to move there, stat!

Why are so many celebrities dying in 2016? Mainly, there's just more celebrities than ever.

Aaaand despite my very whingey post earlier this week, I am genuinely fine, but I really loved this article- 8 ways to tackle the life crisis you think you're having. Thanks to all the real life and internet pals who reached out, or emailed, or commented though - I really appreciated the love!

SUNDAY LINKS

Hello! It's been a while (again) - I've been a busy bee with the Science Festival taking over my life for the last month, but things are finally calm again and I've found the time to turn on my laptop again.

This weekend has been the first weekend in AGES where I've had no plans, and it has been properly glorious. I've been for a run, I've soaked in the bath, I've watched loads of movies and read my book, and I've still got most of Sunday ahead of me. Happy days.

I hope you're all having a nice weekend too, here's my round up of interesting things I've found online this week.

Being Little - Copenhagen
I'm off on an adventure to Copenhagen with my mum and sisters next weekend, and I can't wait! I actually can't think of the last time just the four of us hung out (without kids or our partners), so I'm super excited to get a bit of bonding time with them! I've been loving Lyzi's guide to Copenhagen, her photos are beautiful!

Yay Scotland! Here's how Holyrood became the most LGBT Parliament in the world.

This is fascinating! How one man accidentally discovered he had Aphantasia.

Oooh, I grew up thinking American MTV was the COOLEST THING ever, so it's quite nice to see that MTV is getting quite good again.

It's worth taking time to read this powerful interview with Monica Lewinsky about shame, public humiliation, and how she's rebuilt her life.

The dream is over, and the Government have ruled that it absolutely wouldn't be appropriate to name their new giant expensive research vessel Boaty McBoatface. Whatever, it'll always be Boaty to me.

I feel like I'm meant to be their target market, but rainbow bagels just look SO awful to me, I don't get it! Here's an interesting take on the most controversial bagel in Brooklyn.

I love Ask Polly SO much, and this week's column is almost as good as it gets. I've been feeling pretty introspective lately (down to changing jobs and the life evaluation that goes hand in hand with that), and it's good to be reminded that life is not a series of goals. It's savouring the little moments of each day, and realising that you are the centre of your life and that is good:

'If you can learn to be where you are, without fear, then sooner than you know it, your life will quite naturally be filled with more love and more wonder than you can possibly handle. When that happens, you'll look back and see that this was the most romantic time of your whole life. These are those terrible days, those gorgeous days, when you first learned to breathe and stand alone without fear, to believe not in finish lines but in the race itself. Your legs are aching and your heart is pounding and the world is electric.'

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy Easter everyone! I'm super excited for Easter this year, as I haven't had any chocolate since February (aaah!), and I am so ready for my easter eggs! It's a super busy weekend for me as the Edinburgh International Science Festival has now started (hooray!), so the last few days have been spent running around getting everything ready, and lots and lots of science, dinosaurs, tiny homes, and lego. It's not a bad way to spend your weekend!

Even though work is super busy, I've been determined to get back into the blogging rhythm, so I've got a few posts up this week (life update, cactus wishlist, a trip to Valldemossa) for you to catch up on if you'd like, and here's my weekly round-up of interesting things I've found online. Have a nice Sunday!

Fancy some easter baking? How amazing do these creme egg brownies look? Yum!

I really connected with this: sometimes #girlsquads make me feel like shit.  'Telling yourself that there’s room for all women to succeed is hard, because the evidence of history isn’t there — we have always had to fight for token spots and quotas, setting ourselves apart from ‘other girls’ by being unapologetically confident and tough. And though things are changing gradually, it’s not so easy to forget.'

This is fascinating - a look at the stand-up comedians who run big brand social media.

I am currently quite  obsessed with enamel pin badges (I can't resist an instagram trend). Finest Imaginary has just brought some new ones out and they are adorable (that bear!).

Now the weather is getting better, I really have no excuse to not start running again, but I'm finding it really difficult to get motivated! I need something like the Hogwarts Running Club - it looks amazing!

Remember that cringey Financial Times article that scoffed because millennials weren't willing to pay £800 per month into their pension? Here's a lovely comeback from a CBA millennial: 'If only someone had suggested to me that saving up for old age was wise then I wouldn’t have bothered building that scale model of the Taj Mahal out of £50 notes in my living room'.

Aaand here's a really interesting look at the changing world of pop (and why we are now all Beliebers).

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy Sunday! Hope you've all had a nice weekend. This month feels like it's absolutely flying by, I can't believe it's what, the 21st, already?! Madness.

I've been enjoying a slightly quieter life, before the Festival kicks off next month. I've got a secret trip planned for Joshua's belated birthday present (we love secret trips), so I am counting down the days until that... less than two weeks to go!

I already have a few space prints up in my flat, so I should probably try to resist these, but they are so beautiful! NASA have released a series of beautiful space travel posters that are all free to download.

I have been absolutely rubbish at running this year (it's too cold! And dark! Weep!), so I am taking some motivation from the amazing Natalie Dormer, chatting about why she loves running.

Everyone went a bit mad over the Financial Times article this week, that smugly stated that today's 25 year-olds should be saving £800 a month. I cannot imagine ever having that much disposable income, and live in fear of my meagre pension. What are you supposed to do?

Feel like you're just faking your way through life? You are not alone - imposter syndrome is totally a thing (and you've got to start giving yourself some credit).

Gaaaaah, getting offered 'exposure' for work (instead of payment or any reasonable compensation) is the worst. Here's an excellent rant about how the editor of the Huffington Post has really grim opinions on this.

Every now and then I think about start yoga - everyone seems to rave about it, so it must be good (right?), but it also looks SUPER intimidating and complicated. My lovely pal Lianne has just started classes, and I loved her experience of starting yoga (and the motivation of lovely jumpers!).

Have you seen the amazing video OK Go made for their new song - Upside Down and Inside Out? Go go go and watch it! They filmed it all in zero gravity in one of those fancy planes, with no special effects or fancy editing - the making of video is well worth a watch too!

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy Valentine's Day! Hope you've had a nice weekend with your valentine's and your galentine's. The sun is out (hooray, spring!), and I am off out for breakfast with my beloved soon. Dream Sunday!

If you've got a valentine, but haven't got yourself organised yet, never fear! Here are some cute last-minute watercolour cards you can make.

Remember Lord Lucan? I read a really fascinating book based on him a few years ago (this one!), so I was really interested to see that they have now issued his death certificate. Another interesting thing - the story of the lucky journalists that got to pursue him around the world.

Big science news this week... they have just discovered gravitational waves! Now, to be honest, I don't really understand the impact of that, but I'm hoping someone at the Science Festival will explain it in simpler terms!

This can't be a good idea, right? An exact replica of the Titanic will set sail in 2018.

I've spent most of this week thinking about Beyonce. There are a million articles out there right now about Queen B, her new video, and how she's growing as an artist, but I love this one - total praise of Bey celebrating her blackness and her IDGAF attitude.

And finally, all I want in life is a pet fox. I am TOO jealous of Kaylah from the Dainty Squid, who actually has one!

SUNDAY LINKS

I've had such a nice chilled weekend so far. My house is clean and full of fresh flowers (tulips are back, hooray!), and I'm drinking coffee and blogging with a sleepy hedgehog next to me.

All I've got to do today is cycle to my boyfriend's house (hopefully managing to time the ride with a gap in the rain), and then we're watching movies, eating food, and continuing the weekend laziness. I actually love a rainy Sunday, when you hibernate all cosy indoors. They are the best kinds of days!

I hope you're all having a nice weekend (ideally with coffee in hand, and pyjamas still on). Here's some interesting links to read if you are still refusing to get out of bed...

Flower arranging tips from a Brooklyn florist

Stop everything and look at this AMAZING emoji cake roll. Have you ever seen more amazing baking? I am in awe!

Got a vegan beau? Here's an ace list of vegan-friendly Valentine's presents.

I know we've all gotten over the Kanye twitter drama, but this is a really interesting take on it: what does the Yeezy–Khalifa twitter fight say about how Kanye views women?

As a kid who grew up in the golden era of Disney films, I'm pretty sure I'm always going to love them. Buttt, researchers have been studying Disney princesses, and have found a pretty major problem.

I really love this. The wisdom and reasoning of why you should have a fuck off fund. This is the first time in my life where I've actually been sensible about saving money (sorry mum). I realised I was spending loads on clothes that I wasn't really wearing, and definitely didn't need, so I'm going to resist lunchtime trips to H&M (unless I have a particular thing I honestly need or want), and start putting that money in savings instead. I'm aiming for a few really ace holidays, but it's good to have a safety net too!

Did you see House of Fraser's mega cringe-worthy #Emojinal social media campaign? I love emojis, but not like this!

And finally, how sad is this? A baby hedgehog lost all of his spikes due to his traumatic upbringing. Poor Derek!

SUNDAY LINKS

I am shattered. Since coming back to work after the most wonderfully relaxing Christmas break, it has been flat out. The Festival I work for isn't actually happening until March, but this is the month that our programme goes to print - and as I run the sponsorship team it means we need to get as much funding as possible confirmed in January, so that logos can run correctly, and it all gets signed off in time. AND we have to start planning for the next financial year AND do analysis of progress so far, and look after all the other bids and reports and projects that are going on. Eep.

I generally love a deadline, but this week it all just got a bit much, and I couldn't find the energy to blog or go running or do anything that wasn't just crashing on the sofa as soon as I got home.

But this weekend has helped - I've been a total hermit and just mooched around my flat, slowly tidying it, and getting my (non-work) life in a little more order. Tonight all I plan to do is eat sushi, watch the rest of the Vampire Diaries (it's ridiculous but I am OBSESSED), and sleep before another manic week rolls round. Bring on February - January is dark and stressful and I need Spring!

Anyway, here's a round up of the interesting things I've seen online this week (when I wasn't panicking over an ever-growing to do list...). Hope you're all having a nice Sunday!

In the last few months I've really embraced leaving my hair curly, and as a lazy person, I love the look of these 16 messy updos (I also love that hair colour!).

I love this so much - Kylo Ren takes part in Undercover Boss for Saturday Night Live.

Can you believe that it's been fifteen years since Popworld first aired?! As a teenager, I bloody loved it. Here's a nostalgic look back at why it was so brilliant.

Talking of music shows, how do we fix the Brit awards?

Here's a really fascinating look at the deeper meaning of emojis, and how social media is changing communication.

I agree with all of this. The 12 things that restaurants must stop doing in 2016.

Have you seen the massive NYC milkshakes that everyone's going on about? Here's an ace rant about how they are bullshit.

And finally, it's almost February, which means Valentine's Day is around the corner! Here's 9 adorable DIYs for your Valentine.

SUNDAY LINKS

It's been quite the week, hasn't it? I am absolutely shattered - work is in full swing, and I'm so fed up with dark and cold January nights. Bring on Spring - I need some sunshine in my life!

One for the sweet tooths out there. Here's how you make this beautiful candy floss pastel rainbow cake!

It's been a bit of a horrible week with news of David Bowie and Alan Rickman (sob!) losing their battles with cancer. Sali Hughes shares her thoughts on the grief police in The Pool.

I feel quite overwhelmed when I think about my mortgage, and how long it's going to take me to pay it off. Why are Brits so obsessed with buying their own homes?

Moot moot! This is really interesting - a look at how they made Pingu.

Have you seen Making a Murderer yet? I started watching it during the Christmas holidays, and before I knew what was happening, I watched all 10 episodes in under 24 hours (and then spent the next few days reading everything I could about the case). If you haven't seen it yet, I am so jealous! If you have, here's 12 documentaries you should watch next.

This is brilliant and rings very true - how the twisted villian of the new Star Wars film, Kylo Ren, is a gatekeeper.

Looking for a new penpal? The super creative Kaylah from the Dainty Squid is seeking new postcard pals.

And finally, I really enjoyed this blog. Liz pushed herself out of her comfort zone, said 'I am going', and travelled across the world all by herself. Then she realised she was actually having a pretty terrible time, but that was totally okay too.

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy Sunday! Have you had a good week? Mine has been manic - after the last lovely days of my holiday,  I was back to reality with a bump with the busiest few days back at work (deadlines are fast approaching and a little terrifying!), and a pretty packed weekend. I need to talk myself into going for a run today, but it's so cold out, I just want to stay in my pyjamas. Aargh!

Anyway, here's the return of Sunday Links - a round up of interesting, creative and fun things I've come across online this week.

Cactus doughnuts by Aww, Sam
New year got you in a bit of an existential panic? Here's 20 signs you're doing better than you think you are.

This made me laugh so much: man says fuck you to careers advisor who claimed 'astronaut' is not a real job.

I have been a huge Taylor Swift fangirl for many years, but this is really fascinating - how Taylor reversed female opinion to become the most famous pop star in the world.

Have you seen Star Wars yet? (You're not one of these people, yeah?). If so, you're probably in love with Oscar Isaac - the internet's new boyfriend.

I'm skint after Christmas, so I'm counting down the days to payday, when I can treat myself to some of the amazing enamel pins from this huge shopping guide! I feel like I need that hedgehog pin at least, right?

I am a huge Neil Gaiman fan, and I absolutely love Gormenghast, so news of the possible film adaptation is very, very exciting!

And finally, this is BRILLIANT, and you should read it. Why don't men I date ever love me?

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy less-than-two-weeks-til-Christmas everyone! I'm starting to feel pretty festive. My tree is up (and looks so beautiful!), my Christmas shopping is almost done, and I only have ONE WEEK left at work before I'm on holiday for ages. Hooray!

I've also been blogging every day this month, and I'm pretty pleased with how it's going (even though it's proving fairly impossible to find time when it's light enough to take photos!). If you haven't been keeping up, just click here and get reading - I've got gift guides, make up, hedgehogs, home tours and so much more for you to look at.

21 ways to decorate a small space for the holidays
The world's a pretty scared, angry place at the moment, but after one idiot attacked people in London #youaintnomuslimbruv started trending and it was wonderful.

I absolutely love this DIY paint palette hair clip tutorial! Perfect for the arty person in your life.

Wonder why everyone on youtube sounds the same? This look at the linguistics of youtube is really fascinating.

Who run the world? Girls! Here's a list of badass women you probably didn't hear about in 2015.

This feels all too familiar - emo kids have been sharing what they look like now. When I was a teenager I lived in baggy jeans with grungey make-up, horrendous hair, ALL the eyeliner, and wristwarmers. It was cool!

I don't know if I'd be brave enough to move away to a very big city one day, although I do wonder what life would be like! I really enjoyed this very honest take on it - when the dream unravels for an Englishwomen in New York.

I've not baked yet in my new oven, so I'm really looking forward to the Christmas holidays, when I can make nice things (and eat them while watching Christmas movies!). This lemon bar recipe looks yum!

And finally, I love Table manners? Impeccable - a weekly roast of The Guardian's Blind Date column.

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy Sunday everyone! I've been blogging every day this week as part of Blogmas, and it's been so nice to get back into blogging habits after an unexpected break. I'm back in my house, I've finished all of the painting/DIY I wanted to get done before the holidays, and it's been so nice to chill out in my flat (even if I've been feeling knackered/ill all week, boo).

Here's the return of Sunday Links - a round up of the interesting things I've seen on the internet this week.

DIY pinecone wreath
This has been the most surreal week. I went on a flying trip to London to attend a fancy reception at Westminster - it was the evening before the Syria vote, and it was very, very strange to see how life (and schmoozing) went on as normal, even on the eve of war. I think the Daily Mash sums it up well - hooray for war.

On a much (much much) lighter note, this made me laugh so much. Katniss REALLY loves pita.

This is really cute... to raise money for Great Ormond Street, creative agency Purple are running a Purple Knitivity. You can choose what gets knitted next using #PurpleKnitivity on twitter or facebook - I've asked for a christmas fox, fingers crossed!

Who knew emojis looked different on different phones?! This is a really interesting look at emojis on apple, google and samsung phones - the google ones are the cutest!

I absolutely do not need to buy any more dresses, but I am eyeing up Lynne's Christmas party wishlist - how lovely is that feather dress?

This is a bit boring, but really useful! The computer shortcuts you need to know about.

Thinking about making some DIY beauty products as Christmas presents? Here's what dermatologists said about pinterest face masks.

And finally, in a sea of blogger gift guides, it's nice to see one championing independent shopping!

SUNDAY LINKS

I'm cheating and writing this a bit ahead of time, because when this goes up I'll be in my new flat! Yay! If everything's gone to plan, I'll have internet set up, all of the painting will be done, and I'll have started shuffling things over. Here's hoping it's a smooth move!

I've had a fairly exhausting week, sorting through all my stuff (how do I have so much?) and packing. I HATE PACKING. It's so boring and everything's so heavy, and as I write this my stuff is half-packed and I can't find anything. Aaaargh!

Anyway, here's my round-up of interesting links from the internet this week. I've scheduled a few posts so I'll be blogging as normal next week (come say hi on Monday, Wednesday and Friday!), but I'm going to be skipping next Sunday's link roundup to have an internet-free weekend... so this feature will be back in two weeks time. Got all that? Phew!

Succulent squash - The Jungalow
How beautiful is this original Star Wars concept art? The countdown is on to the new film, and I am EXCITED.

The Guardian goes backstage at MTV's Europe music awards, and it is hilarious.

I have been quite surprised (and ANNOYED) by how many people, after hearing I was moving into a new flat, asked if my boyfriend was moving in with me... and then looked quite weird/confused when I said he wasn't. Turns out it's not just me who gets asked this, or is driven a bit mad by it... in defence of not living with your boyfriend.

There's been a bit of chat in the press this week about JK Rowling's support of the Guardian's 'Culture for Coexistence' letter. One fan got so upset she wrote a massive open letter and (surprisingly?) JK Rowling responded

Bit of a controversial question, but should cyclists be allowed to run red lights?

I know Halloween has been and gone, but I couldn't resist linking to these properly scary Halloween costumes.

I get quite wound up by people whinging about people looking at their phone, but this is quite a sweet idea - a vending machine that prints short stories for you to read, instead of looking at your phone.

And finally, does "the absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming; taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things" sound good to you? Then you absolutely need to embrace the Danish art of hygge.

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy Sunday everyone! Did you remember that the clocks went back this morning? I can't believe that another week has flown by so quickly - it's been so stressful! I still haven't started packing for my big house move (ha), so that joy awaits me next week.

Here's my round-up of interesting things from the internet this week...

Aristocat shirt (look at that cat collar!)
When I get really frustrated I cry. It's my worst habit, and the thing I most wish I could change about myself - I worry that it just makes me look weak and emotional, but I don't know how to fix it! This article doesn't offer any advice, but it is comforting to see that it's more common than I thought.

This interview with Daniel Craig is WONDERFUL: "What could we learn from James Bond that would help us in our day-to-day lives?" Daniel Craig: [Thinks for a short while.] "Nothing."

Here's an absolutely beautiful Autumn DIY, how to make an ombre Autumn crown.

I always knew Edinburgh was a beaut, but now it's officially the best place to live in the UK!

This time next week it'll be November 1st, which means National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo) officially begins! The challenge is to write 50,000 words in 30 days, which leaves you with a first draft of a short novel. It's perfect for you if you've always wanted to write, but can't quite find the time - the site is packed with advice and pep talks and everything you need to find motivation and keep going. I really want to do it this year, but I can't decide if it's totally bonkers trying to do that AND move house?

I still consider myself quite new to city cycling, but this week I made record time on one of Edinburgh's hilly roads, and I realised how confident I feel cycling in traffic now (buses no longer faze me!). On that note, I really liked these tips for confidently cycling in cities.

Sneaky sexism is just as bad as blatant sexism. This is an interesting look at 8 ways men don't realise they are subtly shaming women.

I want so many things off this list: 25 insanely fun kitchen things you need immediately. How cute is the coaster cactus?

And finally, this is COMPLETELY self-indulgent (sorry), but in a week of major stress, it was so sweet to see I was mentioned as one of Wardrobe Conversations' Blog Crushes. You guys!

Sunday, 18 October 2015

SUNDAY LINKS

How is it Sunday already? It's almost November, how mad is that?!

This week has flown by. I've been to London and back, I've felt guilty for not packing anything yet, and I'm still having loads of issues with Ikea (aaaargh)! Still, this weekend has been ace. I've been watching anime at the Filmhouse, and today I've got a Star Trek-themed games afternoon with my pals because we are cool guys.

Here's my round-up of interesting things from the internet this week!

Cactus earrings - Finest Imaginary on Etsy
I refuse to believe that you don't pronounce the 't' in Voldemort, but apparently so, according to the 10 most commonly mispronounced names in the world of literature.

I started listening to Limetown this week and I am OBSESSED. It's a fictional podcast that follows a journalist as she investigates the infamous disappearance of a doomed research facility, and it is so so so good. If you liked Serial and love spooky things, this is perfect for you.

If you're not sick of my halloween chat already, you'll like this: Black Heart Creatives (a super cool acrylic jewelery designer) have pulled together their plus size halloween picks (the drippy blood necklace is so cool!).

And here are 12 no-carve pumpkin ideas - I love the stencil ones!

Have you ever wondered how much do real bloggers earn?

This is a really horrifying, but fascinating statistic - people are being shot by toddlers on a weekly basis this year.

I didn't know anyone who owned a peacock, but my mum ALWAYS lectured me on how to pronounce 'butter', so parts of this hit a bit close to home! 19 problems you had if you grew up posh in Scotland.

This is my new favourite thing. Someone has written a book of dessert recipes inspired by Game of Thrones called Game of Scones, and it is as deliciously wicked as you might imagine!

And finally, this absolutely should not be as funny as it is: Which song is most improved when all occurrences of "I," "me," "my," etc. are replaced with "Greg"?

SUNDAY LINKS

Hello Sunday! I've had a fairly manic week, with a couple of big deadlines at work and lots to do! It's not been all stress though, I had a lovely night at the David Bailey exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery (which ends next week, if you're thinking about seeing it!), and a weekend of birthday celebrations with my pal Biddy, lazy long breakfasts and blogging prep.

What's better than a doughnut or a milkshake? A DOUGHNUT MILKSHAKE, obviously!

I really liked Zoe's very honest post on how to become a full-time blogger.

This is depressing, but very interesting: how gender bias at work turns up in feedback.

Book Week Scotland announced their programme, and it looks brilliant!

I loved the Very Hungry Caterpillar when I was little, and I really love this interview with the author Eric Carle. He was asked if he was worried about encouraging gluttony in children, and his answer is glorious.

Wonderful, beautiful Nadiya won the Great British Bake Off (yay), and the Guardian looks at how brilliant she is, and how she has won so much more.

I applied to GBBO this year (and was unsuccessful, obviously!), but I've spent the whole series feeling very glad that I didn't get through - it looked SO DIFFICULT. Someone from Buzzfeed baked every technical challenge from Great British Bake Off and the results are hilarious.

Lianne has just moved to New York, and I'm super jealous of her NYC life!

Finally, as the nights are getting colder it's officially comfort food season! This gourmet chorizo mac and cheese recipe looks amazing.

SUNDAY LINKS

Hello Sunday! This week has been ace, I've binge-watched loads of Nashville (so, so obsessed with that show), had a flying trip to Glasgow to stay in the absolutely beautiful citizenM and view the Turner Prize exhibition (more on this soon), saw friends, ate amazing food, and basked in the absolutely glorious sunshine. Phew!

A3 letter lightbox (also available in A4 here!)
"The only thing Danny Boyle’s London 2012 opening ceremony was missing was a section where hundreds of women skipped around the stadium singing the praises of opaques, and the fact that, thanks to our terrible weather, we can wear them for nine months of the year".
Lauren Laverne wrote a list of the 10 best things about being a British woman, and it is perfect.

The most exciting thing this week was obviously that they found water on Mars! I went to see The Martian this week, and I'd hugely recommend it, I loved it!

Ryan Adam covered 1989 and everyone went mad for it.  New Statesman looks at Ryan Adam's 1989 and the mansplaining of Taylor Swift.

Vice asks the important questions: was Avril Lavigne killed off and replaced with an actress

I'm turning 30 in December, and I swithered over doing a '30 before 30' project. I decided against it (it all seemed too forced), but I liked this list: things every grown human should maybe stop doing by the time they're 30.

The new Lazy Oaf x Casper collection has just been launched, and it is perfect for October! I am particularly obsessed with that fluffy jumper.

Young Adult fiction tends to go for plucky, likeable characters (think Harry Potter!), but antiheroes are on the rise with more YA girls behaving badly.

This was an interesting read...  why are kids in Japan so independent?

Edinburgh wonder-shoppe Hannah Zakari are holding a cocktail clutch bag workshoppe. There's only 10 spots available, so if you are interested, sign up quickly!

SUNDAY LINKS

Another week, another round-up of fun things! This week has absolutely blitzed by for me - the sale of my new flat was concluded (meaning I can actually start ordering furniture), I caught up with old pals, submitted massive funding applications at work (fingers crossed!), and got well and truly back into blogging (this will be my SIXTH post of the week! Madness).

Here's some interesting internet things that caught my eye!

Bee socks - Etsy
Do you remember where you were when you first heard about pig-gate? (or, it's better title, #Hameron). This article, the PM, the pig and musings on power, is a really interesting article about authority and the nature of power in Britain.

I jumped on the Autumn band-wagon before it was even officially Autumn (er, here, here, and here) so this mega-sweary it's decorative gourd season declaration was right up my street.

For LFW Pinterest and Topshop teamed up to make a pinterest palette tool, which measures your colour DNA.

Still on LFW, British Beauty Blogger wrote a critical piece on bloggers and fashion week.

I've seen a lot of people rave about Dismaland, Banksy's theme park, but I just find the whole thing a bit stale. Is it because I am a big kid who actually still loves Disneyland? Am I not intelligent enough about contemporary art? Is it all a bit of a self-righteous egotrip about how clever he is and how terrible the country is? I don't know. Neither did the author of this article, Banksy and the problem with sarcastic art.

I would never, never normally post links to things like this, but this is something else. How to lose weight in 4 easy steps.

Morrissey's new book is out, and the Guardian absolutely HATED it. The List critiqued it to see if the poor reviews were justified and - "Verbosity does not make you James Joyce. It makes you a boor" - they absolutely were.

And finally! All I want in life is a pet fox. Just look at it! Gah.

SUNDAY LINKS

Happy Sunday everyone! I've had a lovely, but very, very busy week. I went down to London for a few days of work, followed by a weekend of fun with my bestie (we went to the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour, and it was possibly the BEST DAY EVER. More on this soon!).

Now I'm sitting at a train station somewhere in Northern England, as my train home has been delayed by an incident in the Borders, and it doesn't look like we'll move any time soon. All I want is to get home and get in my pyjamas... cross your fingers for me please!

While I wait for my train to move (I've been sitting in this seat for over five hours now, so I am a bit broken!), here's a few of my favourite links from this week.

London Fashion Week started on Friday. I get a bit intimidated by fashion, but I love this Vice article from last year: I dressed like an idiot at London Fashion Week.

I love cheese, but I've never thought about roasting it before. Take a look at this roasted feta recipe, and prepare for your mouth to water.

Did you know you can get Han Solo pop tarts?! Guttingly, you can't actually eat them, but they do look amazing.

However, you CAN eat and play with these chocolate LEGO bricks and they are possibly the most adorable thing I've seen!

Have you ever wondered what the deal with rose gold is? This article, about the semiotics of rose-gold is super fascinating.

I've got a lot of love for Lorde, and I really liked how she rocked her sore eye at New York Fashion Week (aka did not care, partied through it, continued to look amazing).

And finally, everyone loves pom poms, right? Checkout these 10 amazeballs pom pom projects to get your crafty fix!

SUNDAY LINKS

Currently, it's a very gloomy afternoon in Edinburgh. I've got candles burning, and I've cosied up under a blanket to blog, with netflix on in the background (I'm about to start watching Monsters University, and I am excited!). I've got a bit of a manic week ahead - I'm off to London for work and play, so I'm enjoying the chance to laze while I can.

I was reading through some of my favourite blogs, and I realised that I absolutely love reading posts like these - where people pick out their favourite things from the internet each week. I'm feeling truly back on blogging form after a very lazy summer, so I thought this could be a nice new feature...  so say hello to Sunday Links!

I've been amazed watching Patrick Ness' incredible fundraiser for Syrian refugees. He aimed for £10,000, and has now raised just under £600,000, with the help of loads of authors and publishers match-funding donations as they come in. It's been incredible to see the YA community come together, and the money is going to such a good cause. If you haven't donated yet, please consider doing so.

On that note, this reddit AMA is really fascinating. It's a Syrian refugee in Germany, talking about his journey, why he left, and what he's doing now.

I'm getting pretty obsessed with interiors and home decor blogs, as I'm starting to plan my new house, and I've really been enjoying Lily Melrose's moving vlogs. I don't watch many vlogs as they all seem pitched at kids, so it's nice to find someone in their 20's, chatting about the things I like!

I've been rewatching Parks & Recreation (which is pretty much the best show ever made), and I have been loving this collection of 100 Parks & Rec gifs, which means you'll never be stuck for a way to express yourself.

I'm a fan of crisp days and cosy nights in, so I like Miss West End Girl's 10 things to do in Autumn post. Lynsay is also one of my inspirations for starting a links post - you can check out her weekly round up here!

I love Kate's X-Files brooch (SO cute), and I also adore how she's styled a perfect pastel outfit around it.

Apparently, George R.R. Martin's new book is coming in 2016! I'm not sure if I actually believe that, but I'll cross my fingers.

And finally, this made me actually laugh out loud - men wearing a military helmet and nothing else in western art historySHOES, Ajax? and deny the other Greeks the sight of these shapely ankles?
